Special Guard Message

This is the email for guard parents regarding Friday Night.

Guard/Parents:

Friday night we have a football game at St. Paul's. Instead of doing our regular half time show we will be performing our pep rally routine to Sir Duke. We have practiced this routine since July, by now everyone should know it and we expect everyone to perform. Tomorrow we will video our practice and anyone not performing to our expectations will be asked to sit out for half time and support your team on the sidelines. We have had a fabulous year so far and look forward to everyone giving their best as we come to end the season.

Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence!

  • take a  moment before you respond. think before you speak.
  • don’t interrupt!
  • use considerate and empathetic languagesuch as ~ “i understand that you feel…” and “i’m sorry that”…, etc.
  • frequently reaffirm the other person’s point of view.
  • "own" your part of the conflict and don’t be afraid to say it.
  • make others feel understood.
  • respond only to the message that was communicated. don’t get off track and start throwing in past hurts.

  • focus on the message rather than on the delivery.
  • don’t be so defensive!
  • use “i” instead of “you” when talking about problems.

July Note From Jessica

Hey parents,

I hope your summer has been going well. I have a few little reminders as we wrap up the summer and head into band camp. At the bottom of this email, I will also have the camp and payment dates.

First, make sure you arrive Monday morning with a bright and cheerful attitude! We have a lot to do before the week of band camp. We will be reviewing our technique, as well as getting a start on learning the show.

Second, we will be outside almost the entire time for both camps. This way the girls can get used to being outside so much for band camp. There will be times when we will be in the gym, but please make sure your child has sunscreen and plenty of water. Also, make sure they eat breakfast, but please no dairy products. They will not be able to leave during lunch, so they need to have a lunch packed and brought with them.

Third, for the guard camp, the girls can wear whatever shirt they like. However, do not wear black! For band camp, they will be assigned the practice shirts. If they are not wearing the correct shirt, they will be getting demerits. They can wear whichever shorts they prefer, just not jeans! It would be smart to bring an extra shirt to change into after being sweaty. I will tell them when they can change if they want to. But in the morning of band camp, they need to be in their assigned shirt. Also, bring tennis shoes, and dance shoes if you have them. The girls also need to bring a towel to workout in the mornings.

Fourth, the girls need to make sure they bring back their flag and flag bag. They will be getting the rest of their flags next week. They are responsible for loss or any damage to the flags or flag bag. The flag bags are brand new, so they need to be taken care of to be able to use down the road. The rifle line, also need to make sure they have their rifle with them at all times as well.

Lastly, dates:
Monday July 15 - Wednesday July 17 - guard camp 8-4
Wednesday July 17 - 3rd guard payment due of $100

*do not forget about the choreography fee*

Monday July 22 - Friday August 2 - Band camp 8-4
*Monday July 22 we are going to DCI. We will discuss next week times and what they need to wear*

*does not include the weekend*

After school practices will start August 8. Band practices are Monday and Thursday 3-5 (color guard attends). The guard sectional is Tuesday 3-5.

Any absences for the camps or after school practices need to be informed ASAP. Once school starts please try to schedule doctor appointments on Wednesdays to avoid missing practice. Missing at any time without an excuse will result in demerits.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thanks,
Jessica Scarborough
